Diamonds Are a Geek's Best Friend

For years diamonds have been sought after for not just their shiny qualities, but their industrial qualities as well. From drill tips to semi-conductors, diamonds add another layer to industrial tools and technologies. In the near future they may drive us to work, and sit in our iPOD. Diamonds have extreme resistance not just in hardness, but also in their resistance to extreme heat. This can open a vast amount of applications for devices like electric cars.
The recent developments in a synthetic diamond creation technology known as CVD allows for very thin strips of diamond material to be created. This means integration with modern electronics becomes considerably more plausible. The process uses a chemical vapor deposition resulting from the reaction between two gases. This new method allows for a wider range of shapes and sizes than the original GE method of “high pressure, high temperature”.
It won’t be to long before diamonds pick up some new friends.
